In September 1998, the first annual Farmington Marching Invitational was held in memory of John Biri. Mr. Biri was president of the Farmington Band Boosters the preceding year. It was his dream to someday host a competitive marching festival for high school parade and field bands. Since that time, the Farmington Band Boosters have hosted this event in mid to late September. The parade portion of the contest has been dropped, however the field competition is in full swing, with performances held on the Jack Richardson Field at Haile Memorial Stadium. Over the year, the contest has hosted as many as 32 bands for the field competition. An awards ceremony is held to recognize each band’s performance, noting outstanding work in the areas of marching, music, percussion, color guard and drum majors. ‘Place’ Awards are also presented. Competitive classes are designed by enrollments of participating schools, no matter what the size of the band. The event begins mid-day and continues into the evening. A nominal admission fee is charged. Concession are available throughout the day. Proceeds benefit the Farmington Band Boosters. For more information contact Tim Karth at the FHS Band Office.
