The Lafayette Contest of Champions is in it 37th year. It is a prelims/finals format and divisions are based on band size. Each band is offered a 20 minute clinic at the conclusion of their prelims performance. Class champions automatically advance to Finals competition. Also, Finals bands receive feedback from six adjudicators plus general commentary from all three prelims clinicians.

The entry fee is $350.

Visual:

Brandon Spidel: Judge for DCI (Drum Corps International), BOA (Bands of America), and many local band circuits across the country

Andrew Clark: Troopers DBC Visual Caption Head, Walton HS(GA) Visual Caption Head, Atlanta Quest (WGI)

Mark Martin: Color guard and visual judge for USBands and CSJA(IN), and color guard caption head for Belleville East HS (IL). He works as the color guard/visual designer for several high school and independent ensembles

Music:

Todd Fox: Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Federation of Contest Judges (PFCJ) for eight of those years. He currently judges winter guard, indoor percussion, and marching bands throughout the U.S. and Canada and has judged in the Music caption for over fifteen years with Drum Corps International including numerous regional and national championship contests

Lauren Teel: Troopers DBC Percussion Caption Head, Director of Marching Percussion for the Texas A&M Commerce “Pride” Marching Band and Assistant Director of Percussion for Texas A&M Commerce. She is actively involved in the percussive arts community as both performer, educator, and adjudicator.

Carl Diefenbach: US Marine Drum & Bugle Corps (29 Palms), US Naval Academy Drum and Bugle Corps, Velvet Knights, Capital Regiment, Forte Drum and Bugle Corps, Kingston Grenadiers, Rochester Crusaders, Sunrisers, and many marching bands and winter guards in the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. Carl started judging marching bands and drum and bugle corps 20 years ago. He has judged DCI, DCA, and many marching band competitions across the United States.

We try to track down as much info as we can but we rely on the festival directors to update their pages with schedules and results.  Fans can help us too the day of a festival by sending us photos, schedule updates, scores, etc. via Facebook messenger.  If you post on social media use hashtag #midwestmarching and we may share your post.
