The Dutchmen Field Championship has quickly become the largest "single event" marching band contest in Iowa and one of the largest in the Midwest. 30 bands from Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska and Minnesota compete in one of 4 sanctioned IHSMA events. Over 3000 spectators and 2000 student band members fill Korver Field on the campus of Northwestern College in Orange City. Trophies and caption placements are awarded in every class. Six judges from across the United States adjudicate the contest. The show begins at 2:00pm and ends with a fireworks spectacular and awards at 10:00pm

A few of the past judges have included Jeff Fiedler (former director of the Cavaliers and Santa Clara Vanguard), Ellis Hampton (Boston Crusaders), Andy Salmon (The Woodlands High School, Houston, TX), Dr. Wes Parker (North Carolina State University), Charles Frost ( director of Santa Clara Vanguard), Allan Miller (the Cavaliers), Jarrod Huntley(the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps), Ivan De La Cruz (Dublin Coffman High School, Dublin, OH), Andy Toth (the Cavaliers), Tom Reimer (head judges, Minnesota Percussion Association).
