Judging Panel (Team Pageantry, Inc.)
Visual Sandra Bertelle began her pageantry
experience in Kenosha, WI. as a colorguard member in her
high school band. She went on to receive a B.F.A. and an
M.F.A. in Theater from USC in Los Angeles, California.
She trained with some of the top dance, vocal, and
acting teachers in Los Angeles, as well as the renowned
John Housmann from the Juilliard School in New York. She
has directed and acted in theatrical productions both in
the United States and at Scotland’s Edinburgh Fringe
Festival. She also has guest starred on several prime
time television series. She returned to her roots in
recent years and began judging for Drumcorps
International, Fall Marching Bands and Winterguards
around the nation.
Music Effect MILES THRELKELD (Newport, KY)
Miles Threlkeld received his Bachelors of Music
Education from Morehead State University, and his
Masters of Music Education from Eastern Kentucky
University. He spent eleven years as an instrumental
music teacher in the Boyle County (Ky), and Fayette
County (Ky), School Districts. He has been adjudicating
for twenty one years and has judged contests and
festivals in twenty states and provinces. Miles has been
involved in the drum corps activity as a marching
member, instructor, caption head, program coordinator,
and judge for 25 years. He has been associated with
groups that have made Drum Corps International Finals
eleven times. He is a former member of the Bridgemen of
Bayonne, NJ and the Pride of Cincinnati.
Visual Performance BRANDON SPIDEL (Carmel, IN)
Brandon Spidel is a Junior High Band Director in
Fishers, IN. He has been teaching high school and middle
school band since 1998. A graduate of East Noble High
School in Kendallville, IN, Brandon received his
Bachelor's Degree from Indiana State University where he
served as the principal euphonium player in the ISU Wind
Ensemble for four years.
His teaching experience as a band director has
included Clay City Jr./Sr. High School, Owen Valley High
School, and Fishers Junior High School. He was also a
member of the 1996 Phantom Regiment. Brandon works with
several band programs in the state of Indiana and is
also very active in the winter guard circuit as a judge
and instructor.
Brandon was a member of the Central State Judges
Association from 2008 – 2011. He is also a current
member of the Mid East Judges Association, Indiana Band
Masters Association, The National Association for Music
Education, and the Tri State Judge’s Association.
Visual Performance MARK CULP (Cold Spring, KY)
Mark Culp is from Cold Spring, Kentucky and has worked
as a visual and color guard designer for marching bands
and winter guards throughout the Midwest. He is a former
marching member of both the Golden Knights Drum & Bugle
Corps and the Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard. He is
currently a member of the Tri-State Judges Association
and Team Pageantry, Inc., and was previously the
assistant director of the Central States Judges
Association. He has received additional training through
the WGI Academy. He is an active adjudicator of marching
band and winter guard throughout the United States and
has judged state and circuit championship events in
Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois,
Mississippi, South Carolina, and Florida.
Music Performance - TRAVIS BOND (Mt. Sterling, KY)
Travis is currently in his eleventh year of teaching in
the Montgomery County school district, serving as
director of bands at the high school, and Montgomery
County Intermediate school. Prior to that, he was
director of bands at Mason County High School in
Maysville, KY.
He graduated from The University of Kentucky in the
fall of 2000 with a Bachelor of Music in Music
Education. While at UK he studied saxophone with
Professor Miles Osland and performed in several
ensembles including the Jazz Bands, Concert Bands, and
the Wildcat Marching Band. In the summer of 2006 he
finished his Masters in Music with an emphasis in
Conducting from Southern Oregon University in Ashland,
OR. In the spring of 2010 he finished his Rank I in
educational administration from Morehead State
University. Travis currently has professional
affiliations with MENC, WASBE, and KMEA.
Music Performance - JEF FURR (Indianapolis, IN)
Jef Furr has been involved in music his whole life. 16
years as a High School Band Director and Music
Department Chair. A trombone player at Noblesville (IN)
Middle School, Jef honed his talents and graduated from
Ball State University with a B.S. in Music Education.
After stints at North Miami (IN) and Alexandria-Monroe
(IN) high schools, Jef moved to Southport High School in
Indianapolis as Band Director and, later, Music
Department Chair. Following 1986's featured performance
by Jef and the Southport Band in the classic film,
"Hoosiers," Jef realized a life-long dream as the band
won the coveted 1987 Indiana State Fair Band Day
Competition.His concert bands placed within the top
eight in Indiana four times. In 1994 he joined Music
Travel Consultants full-time. Although he travels
frequently, Jef still finds time to appear regularly as
a trombonist at his church and in local theatre
productions. |
